Acute Injury Treatment

What is an acute injury?

Acute injury is an injury that occurs very quick and sudden, usually from a slip or fall or injury on a playing field. Acute injuries are very common and can be very aggravating, irritating, and downright frustrating when they occur. They can range from all different types of injuries; from a sprained ankle playing in the grass with your family to low back pain from doing yard work all day and “tweaking your back.” The injury can affect muscle, tendons, ligaments, nerves and fascia which is why physical therapy is so beneficial with these injuries. This is when HIDEF physical therapy can step in and help! Acute injury treatment Bellevue begins at your very first appointment with us where we will listen to your story about what happened and how the injury occurred, diagnose through various special tests to confirm what the injury is, and develop a personalized acute injury rehabilitation Bellevue plan together!

What’s the process?

Once we have a good understanding of your injury and mechanism of injury, we will perform certain tests and measures to record baseline measurements to help track your progress over time. Although suffering an acute injury usually happens in an instance, the road to recovery will take some time. At HIDEF physical therapy we strive to be as transparent as possible and will give you as accurate of a timeline as we can for your recovery period. Acute injury rehabilitation Bellevue also doesn’t occur just within the clinic. At your first appointment, we will provide you with a personalized home exercise program (you can learn more by visiting the Home Exercise Program tab) that you will perform at home to maintain progress until your next appointment. Each appointment we will discuss how the exercises went, answer any questions you have, and make sure your form is perfect to get the most out of each exercise. Recovery truly is a team effort and we love creating an alliance with each of our patients to achieve your therapy goals. We will make sure you understand why we are doing each exercise and how it will affect your recovery and answer any questions you may have along the way.

What does recovery look like?

Sometimes acute injuries can resolve on their own, but more often than not you will have some residual pain and weakness that may not completely go away. At HIDEF we customize each physical therapy session and home exercise program to tailor to your exact needs so that you do not have to live in pain. We will discuss your goals and what you are currently struggling with whether it’s walking without pain or simply picking up a grocery bag and give you exercise to help you live a pain free life and achieve your goals. We care about what your goals are and will tailor our treatment sessions to practice movements and exercises that will make you feel comfortable and confident with future movements that may previously have been aggravating or scary to perform.
