It was a pleasure to have Dr. Hank Pelto on the podcast
Dr. Pelto is the current Mariners team physician and the medical director for the Seattle Kraken and is a medical doctor at Virginia Mason. He is also a former team doctor and associate professor for UW Athletics
On this episode of the HIDEF Performance Podcast we talk about non surgical management of injuries. This includes some of the newest treatment techniques such as PRP and TENEX. PRP is a treatment in which blood is drawn and spun down into a platelet rich plasma. This is then injected into the injured area to help restart the healing process. This can help to speed recovery and restart a failed healing process.
TENEX™ is a minimally invasive procedure that removes scar tissue from your tendon. It is an ultrasound-guided percutaneous needle tenotomy (PCNT) for treating tendinopathy. Tendinopathy is a kind of tendon degeneration, also sometimes called tendonosis or tendonitis. We discuss the use of this treatment and the indications for treatment using TENEX versus PRP.
He also shares what life is like as a team doctor and medical director for a major professional sports franchise. This was a really fun episode and we enjoyed the chat. Looking forward to the next one!
